DAWSON, TX — A missing elderly man was found alive after sliding off an embankment into the bottom of a creek in Dawson.

According to the Dawson Police Department, around 3:30 p.m. on August 8, Chief Carter responded to the 18000 block of FM-709 North for a missing elderly man. The man left his home around 11:15 a.m. to mail a letter at the Dawson Post Office and never returned.

The man's wife and sister located his vehicle on FM-709 North near a creek.

Dawson PD says Chief Carter located the elderly man at the bottom of the creek. The man had slipped and fallen down the embankment into the creek, hitting his head on the concrete and rocks below.

Dawson PD says the man was still breathing and alert. He was covered in fire ants and had a head wound.

Dawson PD says the man was safely removed from the creek and transported to the Dawson Fire Department to be flown to a hospital.
