KILLEEN, TX — A Killeen dog who went missing for seven months has returned home.

“We had let him and the other two dogs outside to use the bathroom. When we had gone to let them back in, Gizmo was missing,” said Carla Easterling, Gizmo’s owner.

The family scoured the neighborhood in search of 11-year-old Gizmo. They also turned to social media for help. As the months passed, their hope of finding the chihuahua/shih tzu mix waned.

But then, the family received a phone call from the Killeen Animal Shelter saying the dog had been found.

“I was ecstatic. I was so happy. I didn’t believe it at first. I was like, are you sure?” said Easterling.

Easterling said that she warned that Gizmo might not remember her.

“I went back there and said Gizmo, mommy - baby, and he jumped up and started whining. He never barked. He just did a whining noise that he always does,” said Easterling.

It remains a mystery exactly what happened to the dog during the time he was missing. Easterling said the man who dropped off the dog to the shelter said he received the dog from a little boy who could no longer care for the animal.

While they will likely never know what happened in the yard that day, they are simply grateful to have Gizmo home.
