Man shot in face, car stolen in parking lot of Mexia store

MEXIA, TX — A man was shot in the face and his car was stolen in the parking lot of a local retailer in Mexia Thursday.

The City of Mexia says around 4:50 p.m., a call came in to the Limestone County Dispatch reporting a person had been shot in the face while in the parking lot of a retailer on Milam Street. The Mexia Police Department was dispatched to the scene.

Prior to officers arriving, the City says a lone suspect stole the victim's car and fled the scene. Police were able to use GPS tracking to locate the stolen vehicle in the 500 block of South Denton in Mexia.

Limestone County Dispatch received multiple reports from citizens allowing officers to track the suspect's movement. The suspect was surrounded by responding agencies in the wooded area of a residential neighborhood on the west side of Mexia. He was taken into custody without incident around 5:56 p.m.

The victim was transported to Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia by an unknown person. The City says the victim is a man of unknown age. He sustained injuries to the head and face. His medical status is unknwon at this time.

The suspect has been identified as Kenny Waters of Mexia. He is believed to be 26-years-old.

The City says the incident is under investigation by the Mexia Police Department. Waters has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Additional charges may be filed as a result of further investigation.
