BRYAN, TX — Brazos County officials arrested a man on Thursday who is accused of threatening officers and deputies, via social media postings. He is accused of threatening the officers to drop all charges against him or that he would release derogatory information about them.
Officials said the man, identified as 37-year-old Dustin Havens, gave the sheriff a deadline by which his charges should be dropped or he would go public with his information.
After a thorough investigation by the sheriff's office, a warrant was issued for Havens' arrest.
Dustin Havens was arrested on the charge of knowingly attempting to influence Sheriff Chris Kirk, a public servant, to violate his legal duty to investigate and present criminal cases by the deputies under his command.
Havens had previously been arrested on the charge of "Terroristic Threat of Family/Householod," which is a class A misdemeanor and punishable by $4,000 or up to one year in jail, or both.
According to Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk,"This is the first time in my 23 years of service to my community, as the Brazos County Sheriff, that I have been threatened in such a manner as this."
