UPDATE, DEC. 10:
A motorcyclist remains in critical, but stable, condition after a high-speed crash on Interstate 14 that shut down eastbound lanes for two hours Tuesday afternoon in Killeen.
The 41-year-old man was airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Hospital following the crash with a Ford Mustang just after 2 p.m. on Dec. 9, according to the Killeen Police Department.
Witnesses told investigators both the Mustang and motorcycle were traveling eastbound at high speeds when the crash occurred. The motorcyclist was reportedly weaving through traffic and lane-splitting when the Mustang moved from the center lane to the inside lane after passing another vehicle.
The preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle was passing the same uninvolved vehicle between lanes when it sideswiped the Mustang, causing the rider to lose control and crash. Officers found the motorcyclist lying in the roadway when they arrived at the scene.
The Mustang driver was not injured in the collision.
All eastbound lanes of Interstate 14 were closed for approximately two hours while emergency crews responded and investigators worked the scene.
The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit continues to investigate the crash.
UPDATE:
Killeen Police say the roadway is back open as of 4:26 p.m.
