A homeowner shot at deputies while they were responding to a burglary call in Brazos County.

The Brazos County Sheriff's Office said that they were dispatched to the 6000 block of Koppe Bridge in South Brazos County early Tuesday morning.

They saw that the gate was open, and a door and window were broken and unlocked. They entered the home to make sure the burglar wasn't there.

The homeowner fearing for his safety shot at the deputies. He was unaware they had entered his home.

Deputies returned fire, but then quickly realized that the homeowner was not a threat. Deputies said they were continually announcing their presence while they were in the home, but they believe the homeowner could not hear them due to the ongoing alarm.

No one was injured in the incident.

There is an ongoing investigation by Sheriff’s Office investigators and Internal Affairs Unit, and further details are limited at this time.
