WHITNEY, TX — The White Bluff Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house on fire after it was struck by lightning Wednesday night.
The department responded to an emergency call on Highland Blvd. at 10:07 p.m., where lightning struck a house and set it on fire. The homeowner and all of the volunteer firefighters are safe.
The department requested assistance from nine other local fire departments in order to put the fire out.
"This fire could not have been put out with WBVFD alone. There are no hydrants in the community. We depend on mutual aide from other fire departments to bring tankers of water to us," the Facebook post said. "It is crucial that all fire departments be ready to help their neighbor. Thank You to these 9 Departments answered the call to help White Bluff VFD: City of Whitney, 2604 VFD, Lake View, Blum, Peoria, Steele Creek, Riovista, Careflite 306, Covington was on standby."
The fire department requested prayers to the family who lost their home, and for all the firefighters and support units who responded.
The fire was put out, but the home is destroyed.
