This weekend is the unofficial start to the summer and that means road trips.
Whether it is a small day trip or you're driving across the country you need to make sure that your vehicle is ready for the trip.
Items on your vehicle that needs to be checked are the windshield wipers, tire pressures, and engine oil level. You can do this yourself or have a mechanic check it out for you.
“You should be looking at your tire condition and the tire pressures, and don’t forget to check the spare. That’s an important one that often gets forgotten,” said David Derosier, general manager at Freddy Kish’s Complete Car Care Center.
Other items that need to be checked are the coolant levels, washer fluid, the battery, and all of the lights.
It is recommended to have an emergency kit in your vehicle in case you do have trouble. Jumper cables, fix-a-flat, a flashlight, and a basic set of tools are good items to keep in your vehicle. Drinking water and snacks for everyone in the car including pets should also be kept in the vehicle during a road trip.
