HEARNE, TX — GATX, a railcar company in Hearne, has been operating for over 121 years and has provided jobs for many.

I actually work in the definition department, and that’s where they're actually doing a lot of this like new equipment they're doing there. All like the exterior blast equipment that they're doing so that they can make the process, like the work process itself, go by a lot faster," said Ramon Gutierrez, an employee at GATX.

The railcar company will embark on a venture to utilize advanced technology to enhance the quality in data capture and telematics, which will hopefully decrease the amount of traffic buildup trains it creates.

”Sometimes the traffic lights have those trains coming through. I think it will help because the backed-up traffic, so even if I was to go and say I want to do like the U-turn that you can do, you can’t turn left or do that because the trains coming,” said Danielle Long, a Brazos County resident.

This new technology will help evolve rail shipping production for the 21st century.

“I think technology and anything that is advancing is good for our future,” said Long.

For the month of October, the Texas unemployment rate has dropped to 6.9%, which is great in comparison to September's 8.3%. This expansion is set to create more employees.

”2020 has been so rough for so many. So many have lost jobs this year. Nobody's promised a job tomorrow, so any company that’s coming in and bringing more jobs, I am all for it,” said Long.

The adoption of GPS and telematics will provide more jobs and also move products for trading at a faster rate.

”It’s an industry that’s been around for a long time, and you know, it helps move a lot of product around the country for sure,” said Gutierrez.

The transportation industry is the largest industry of employers in the entire state of Texas, with 20% of employment.
