CLIFTON, TX — A Clifton ISD band member has tested positive for COVID-19.

Superintendent Andy Ball announced the diagnosis in a letter to parents.

Ball says the student has not returned to district property since testing positive. It is believed the student has had contact on campus with band students and staff on Friday, July 31.

Band practices have been suspended until Monday, August 10.

Ball says any person who attended band practices during the listed date should monitor their health for signs and symptoms, follow the CDC guidelines for people who had close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 and contact their primary care physician if they develop symptoms.

Close contact is currently defined as:

  • being directly exposed to infectious secretions (e.g., being coughed on); or
  • being within 6 feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes; if either occurred at any time in the last 14 days at the same time the infected individual was infectious.

Clifton ISD will sanitize any school facility where the student recently entered.
