TROY, TX — A nine-year-old girl from Troy is celebrating her tenth birthday by delivering gifts to others on her big day.
Kaylee Dick has been collecting art supplies for weeks to deliver to the McLane Children’s Hospital on April 24.
"Well, the hospital has a lot of sick kids and I just want to help them," Kaylee said. "I want art supplies, bubbles and just like fun things we can and just like fun things they can play with and stuff while they are there."
The gesture is something Child Life Specialist, Elizabeth Bender said is necessary to keep the kids spirits high while they are in the hospital.
"It's kind of a different setting for them, very strange than their typical environments and so toys are really important because it brings kind of some normalcy and things they are used to at home to a different environment here," Bender said. "The fact that such a young member of our community wants to make an impact on our patients is really, really special."
The Hospital is in need of several things, including crayons, markers, paint, sketch pads, drawing pencils, construction paper, drawing paper, slime ingredients and window paint.
Donations will be accepted until April 23.
Kaylee’s mother, Courteney, created the public Facebook Page, “Kaylee’s Birthday Idea,” for donors to contact the family.
"I would say thank you for your support," Kaylee added.
