LAMPASAS, TX — Hurricane Dorian made landfall in North Carolina Friday morning. As the category 1 storm continues to pound the East Coast, people from across the nation are responding to the call for help.

Lampasas man Brodi Bocanegra is among those helping to restore power to thousands without it.

Bocanegra is a general foreman with Volt Power, and he and his crew were called to the storm zone a week before the storm made landfall.

The crew of nearly 70 men and over 30 trucks started in Florida then went to the Carolina's and Georgia. On Friday they made their way to Virginia, where more than 20,000 people are without power.

“We actually did some work in Melbourne. We had some vegetation get on some lines and break some lines down, a couple broken poles, a lot of re-fusing that happened with the wind and the lightening with the bands from the hurricane,” said Bocanegra. "We go all the time- tornados, ice storms, hurricanes, wind storms, anything. I have been all over the United States doing all this."

Bocanegra has responded to nearly two dozen hurricanes, including Irma and Harvey in 2017.

"It’s horrible, seeing everybody's lives that they have worked for their whole life just ruined. It's just the destruction that Mother Nature can cause, and it's just horrible,” Bocanegra said. “It's hard to take. It's hard to fathom. It's hard to actually put it into perspective unless you are actually there on the ground and seeing it for yourself."

There are also other crews on standby in Texas, ready to respond if they are needed.
