The March of Dimes has partnered with 13 Bush’s Chicken restaurants to begin a month long campaign to collect items for NICU care packages.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or NICU, is a hospital ward or department equipped and staffed to provide intensive care to dangerously ill or premature newborn babies.
The group said that families with a premature baby often don’t have the chance to grab personal items at home or they’re spending many hours bonding with their new baby.
"Having access to these simple, yet powerful items can go a long way for them during their NICU journey which could last days, weeks and sometimes even months before they can bring their baby home," organizers of the campaign said.
This campaign will last the entire month of March at all 13 stores.
They are looking for the following items:
- Travel-size deodorant
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Face wipes
- Gift cards for gas, coffee, local retail stores
- Unscented lotion
- Small journals
- Pen or pencil
- Dry shampoo
- Chapstick
- Gum or mints
- Hand sanitizer
- Small packets of tissues
- Cozy socks
- Water
- Calming teas
