AUSTIN, TX — An Austin company is launching a kit that will allow people to test for COVID-19 at home.

Everlywell announced they have created an initial supply of 30,000 at-home tests for COVID-19.

The company launched a $1 million development incentive earlier this month to any certified laboratories who fulfilled requirements set by the FDA and Everlywell to prioritize development of a COVID-19 diagnostic test. The company says this incentive allowed them to build the full testing and diagnosis experience for the virus in a matter of days.

The COVID-19 testing kit includes:

  • Infectious disease sample collection and shipping materials to safely ship your sample, using COVID-19 guidelines set by the CDC and the recommendations provided by the United Nations Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (UN).
  • Overnight sample delivery to partner labs
  • Results to all users within days

Individuals with positive results will be offered a telehealth consult with an independent board-certified physician from PWNHealth. Positive results will be communicated to all mandated federal and state reporting agencies.

At this time, the FDA has not authorized any test that is available to purchase for testing yourself at home for COVID-19. The FDA said they see the public health value in expanding the availability of COVID-19 testing through safe and accurate tests that may include home collection, and are actively working with test developers in this space.

The Everlywell test costs $135 and is covered by participating HSA and FSA providers, according to Everlywell. The COVID-19 kit will launch on Monday, March 23 and can be purchased online.
