CORSICANA, TX — One person has been arrested for abandoning or endangering a child after a four-year-old girl died of injuries sustained from pulling a large pot of boiling water from the stove.

According to the Corsicana Police Department, on Saturday, August 10, Corsicana PD, Corsicana Fire and EMS responded to the 400 block of South 34th Street for reports of an unresponsive child. When officers arrived, they found the body of an approximately four-year-old girl inside the home.

Corsicana PD says the reporting person told police about 12 hours earlier, the girl had pulled a large pot of boiling water from the stove. The boiling water covered her head, torso, arms, and other areas of her body.

Corsicana PD says the reporting person stated she was not in the room at the time and treated the child herself and did not seek any medical attention.

Corsicana PD says preliminary autopsy results from the Medical Examiner indicated that the child died due to injuries sustained from the boiling water.

An arrest warrant was obtained for abandoning or endangering a child, a 2nd degree felony. Officers served the warrant, and the suspect is now in custody awaiting arraignment.
