WACO, TX — A grocery store employee at the H-E-B on Wooded Acres is one of the newest COVID-19 cases in Waco.

How do shoppers feel, and what has H-E-B done about the problem?

The company says they got word late Thursday and went into action.

"We informed all of the partners working and then sent a text communication to partners who were not in the store," said Chelsea Thompson of the H-E-B Corporate Communications Team.

H-E-B couldn't tell us where the employee worked or how much contact they had with customers.

Marie Martin, who only leaves the house for exercise and grocery shopping, didn't seem especially surprised at the news.

"I haven't cloroxed off all my groceries or anything like that, but I do know people who have," she said.

She says with the spread of the coronavirus, it was bound to happen.

Meanwhile, H-E-B's team started re-cleaning.

”All of our stores have a COVID action manager who manages a team of partners that their job is specifically all day long to sanitize carts, frequently shopped places, shelves door handles, freezer doors,” said Thompson.

Thompson says at the Wooded Acres store, you can recognize the COVID team members by their bright yellow vests.

”It's our place in ensure our employees and our customers feel safe,” she said.

Safety of the food supply remains at the top of just about everyone's list.

"I think I would trust them to take the necessary precautions to clean everything and make it safe for our public. I think eventually, we're all gonna have to be braver," said Martin.

H-E-B has seen this already at its stores around San Antonio.

H-E-B says it’s learned a lot about keeping their employees and shoppers safe, and won’t let up on its cleanliness efforts.
