GROESBECK, TX — An infection control robot has created another line of defense in Central Texas hospitals against COVID-19.
It may look like a vertical tanning bed on wheels, but it means serious business when it comes to germs.
The Tru-D is a bone-fide COVID killer. This robot can take a room and make it totally germ free in several minutes.
How? by harnessing the harshest power of the sun and turning it on germs wherever they may hide.
It uses one of the most powerful forms of Ultraviolet radiation to kill every germ within several feet.
Limestone Medical Center in Groesbeck now has two of them roaming the halls and disinfecting every room at the hospital campus.
"We are a critical access facility. We're a level 4 trauma center so it's very important for us to be able to stabilize a patient, and ship them out to a higher level of care," explained Corey Tunnell, who heads up infection control at Limestone Medical Center in Groesbeck.
After a regular cleaning, a staffer, rolls Tru-D into a room, sets it, and comes back less than an hour later to a totally germ free space.
”It was important for us to be able to have that convenience that luxury of dropping this device off and being able to move on to another room and other duties,” said Tunnell.
You see drawers and cabinets open... so the super powerful ultraviolet light can bounce in to those spaces, seek out those germs and wipe them out.
The room must be totally empty, because the power of Tru-D can cause you to sunburn within seconds.
A recent study conducted with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention proved this technique works well.,
You're likely to see Tru-D in many hospitals around Central Texas and maybe even some high schools, as these machines get used more and more, to kill germs that could Kill us.
