MEXIA, TX — It was an unforgettable birthday for a Mexia man who lives at The Manor nursing home.

Pete Forge is no stranger to the microphone. He spent decades traveling across Central Texas in a gospel quartet.

But on his 84th Birthday from behind the nursing home window, Mr. Pete is in an audience of one.

"You could see him dancing and rejoicing and being happy," said his son Jason Forge.

"I've been talking to him on the phone and I could hear the sadness in his voice," said Forge.

Jason got the idea from an Elvis impersonator on the internet.

"I thought about that Elvis impersonator at a nursing home doing this same thing, bringing joy. I knew how much he loves gospel music. I thought I'm going to do a little concert for him," said Jason.

The days of tagging along with his dad's Sunlight Gospel Singers is now a family legacy.

Jason is a minister of music and has been leading worshipers online amid the pandemic.

The message goes beyond the empty pews or The Manor parking lot.

"Don't stop. Don't stop loving, care, reaching out to your family and friends. You can come up with something special to put a smile on somebody's face. Where there's a will, there's a way," said Jason.

Something Mr. Pete will never forget.
