Donating to Goodwill after Christmas

WACO, TX — For the December 10 edition of Central Texas Living Andrea Morgan spoke with Serina Cole, vice president of community engagement for the Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries.

As you clean out your closets after Christmas, you might be looking for a place to get rid of some stuff to create some space. Goodwill has a list of the best items to donate and what not to donate after Christmas:

Top 10 items to donate:

  1. Clothing
  2. Wardrobe Accessories
  3. Small Appliance and Electronics
  4. Household Furniture
  5. Kitchen Wares
  6. House Wares
  7. Jewelry
  8. Books, Records or DVDs
  9. Hand tools and Power Tools
  10. Games, Toys and Sports Equipment

What not to donate:

  • Clothing that is soiled, wet or torn
  • Furniture which is broken, torn or stained, covered in pet hair or has missing parts
  • Room-to-room carpeting or carpet padding
  • Tires, batteries, gasoline, motor oil, paint in general, flammable or combustible gases (propane, butane, oxygen, etc.)
  • Mattresses, box springs, water beds or water bed frames
  • TV’s, microwaves, VCR’s, guns or other firearms, bullets or other ammunition, explosives, organs and pianos
  • Large desks
  • Baby items and baby furniture
  • Hazardous Waste Materials
