HOUSTON, TX — A Houston Police Department veteran charged in the shooting death of his wife may have been motivated by jealousy, according to the Houston Chronicle.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Pearland police were called to a house in the 1900 block of Canyon Creek Court after a woman found her mother dead in the kitchen.
52-year-old Belinda Hernandez was found dead.
The victim's husband, 56-year-old Hilario Hernandez was taken into custody in Kingsville.
The couple's son-in-law said Hilario was upset with his wife because of "perceived flirting with (the family friend)," according to the arrest affidavit.
The couple's daughter said she texted her mother, and when she didn't respond she grew worried. Hilario then picked up the phone and said Belinda was fine.
The daughter went to the house to check on her mother and came out of the house screaming, telling her husband that "her father had shot her mother."
Belinda was found face down in the kitchen with multiple shell casings around the kitchen.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Hilario was arrested in Kingsville hours after the couple's daughter found Belinda.
He was transported to the Brazoria County jail where he was in custody on Monday. His bond is set at $800,000.
The daughter did not want to discuss the shooting, but said that her mother will be greatly missed.
Belinda is set to be laid to rest at 10 a.m. on Saturday. instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation.
