AUSTIN, TX — DPS said an employee lied about testing positive for COVID-19.

One Texas Department of Public Service (DPS) employees did test positive.

The department announced the cases Thursday night and said public health authorities are aware of the situation.

One of the employees works at the Belton training operations office, located at 2501 South Loop 121, and was last in the office on March 16.

The other employee works at the Carrollton driver license office, located at 4600 State Highway 121, and was last in the office on March 13.

However, on March 23, DPS said the Carrollton driver license office employee did NOT test positive for COVID-19.

DPS said in a statement:

"Last week, the department was informed by one of our employees — an individual who worked in the Carrollton Driver License Office — that this individual had tested positive for COVID-19. In our efforts to notify and work with the public health authorities, it has been brought to the department’s attention that this individual provided us with false information, and in fact, the individual had tested negative for COVID-19. The department is taking the appropriate disciplinary actions against this employee for providing false information."
