EL PASO, Texas (ABC7) — A five-year-old El Paso girl was stabbed by a man and very seriously wounded on Tuesday afternoon at a northeast El Paso fast food restaurant, fire officials said.

The suspected attacker was arrested about an hour and a half later after police said they had found him "hiding out at nearby hotel room."

The girl was transported by the El Paso Fire Dept. to University Medical Center on a code 3 status, which is used to designate those very seriously injured. She was then transferred to El Paso Children's Hospital and reportedly suffered a stab wound to the stomach.

The stabbing happened just before 1:45 p.m. at the McDonald's restaurant at 9461 Dyer Street and the man fled on foot after stabbing the girl, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody just before 3:15 p.m., police tweeted.
