FREEPORT, TX — Freeport police announced that their honorary officer, seven-year-old Abigail Arias, died today.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Abigail Arias, the child who became an officer, a change agent for good and today, an Angel," said Freeport police in a Facebook post.

Abigail, who was battling cancer, was also known by the department as Officer Arias 758.

Abigail Arias had been battling lung cancer, according to KHOU. Then on February 7, she had her dream come true of being sworn in as an officer. She was given a badge and officially made an honorary officer.

The Freeport Police Chief says Abigail's "love, compassion, and most importantly, her magnanimous spirit, will live on for generations to come."

Chief of Police Raymond Garivey ended with the lessons he says Abigail taught him in her short life.

"It’s both our duty and privilege to embody what Abigail taught us: to live life to the fullest, to never give up hope no matter the odds, to fight “the bad guys” passionately, and most importantly, to love one another - and always Stay Relentless!

I love you Abigail
