HOUSTON, TX — A statue of Christopher Columbus, located in the museum district, in Houston has once again been vandalized.

In this incident, vandals have poured red paint on the hands and face of the 7-foot-tall statue.

The statue also holds a piece of cardboard that reads, “Rip the head from your oppressor.”

It’s not clear when the statue was vandalized but it comes during a time when Confederate monuments have been toppled during anti-racism demonstrations.

Although Columbus is not tied with the Confederacy, some say he shouldn’t be viewed as the person who ‘discovered’ America but rather as a foreign conqueror who killed and enslaved natives.
