DRIPPING SPRINGS, TX — Residents in an Austin-area town started a petition hoping to change the town name.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, residents in Dripping Springs would rather call their home "Pound Town," after one of the city's earliest residents Dr. Joseph M. Pound.

A GoFundMe page has been created to raise $1,854. So far, the page has only raised $175.

The page said that the idea to rename Dripping Springs to Pound Town is to honor the memory of Dr. Joseph and Sarah Pound, the town's founders.

The GoFundMe says, "Donations will be used to fund a fun campaign that may or may not result in a ballot initiative, and at the very least we'll donate a good portion of the proceeds to Friends of the Pound House for upkeep and education at the historic homestead."

Resident Daniel McCarthy started the page. He said the residents are "serious about history." He said the reaction to rename the town has some mixed reactions.

"For a bunch of churchgoing people they seem to have some dirty minds," McCarthy said.

There is a website with more information on the initiative to change the town name. There are also shirts, hats and onesies for sale promoting Pound Town.
