WEST, TX — West plans to start a project to repair a section of a street, and this will be the last project funded by the FEMA money given due to the West Explosion years ago.

The city voted on Tuesday to repair a section of Marable St. between Pecan St. and Spring St. They expect the project to take 11 months to complete.

The street was used frequently when it was the main access road to temporary classrooms for West ISD. Heavy equipment also damaged the road during the years after the explosion.

The project will cost $1.3 million, and $500,000 of it will be covered by FEMA. The remain amount is from a $10.4 million settlement West reached with companies during the explosion.
