WACO, TX — Waco I-S-D's Parent as Teachers program would normally hold a graduation ceremony for children who will be entering Pre-K next year. However, since coronavirus has forced children to stay home, the teachers decided to bring the graduation ceremony to them.
A parade went through town visiting all 36 graduates and their families.
The Parents as Teacher educators have been working with families remotely since March and say the opportunity to see each other is a welcomed sight.
The educators have been working with these families for two to four year on preparedness for Pre-K. Over that time bonds have developed.
"It's been awhile, and we form bonds with the children and their families. So it's an emotional time for us too," said Anita Henderson, the lead Parent Educator for Waco ISD.
The Junior League of Waco has also donated backpacks and school supplies for Pre-K that were given to each child graduating from the program.
