WACO, TX — The Waco Independent School District Board of Trustees selected Dr. Susan Kincannon as the lone finalist to become the district's next superintendent Wednesday night.

Dr. Kincannon has worked in public education for 30 years, according to a Waco ISD news release. Kincannon has served a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction and deputy superintendent. Most recently, she has served as the Belton ISD superintendent since 2011.

Dr. Marcus Nelson resigned from his position as superintendent of Waco ISD in March -- after he was arrested in Robertson County for marijuana possession.

Since then, former president Pat Atkins and former trustee Larry Perez also resigned from their positions. Both board members resigned within one week of each other.

A school board must wait 21 days before hiring a finalist for superintendent . The Waco ISD board is slated to discuss Kincannon’s contract during a meeting on Aug. 29.
