WACO, TX — A food truck is making its rounds in Waco this summer to keep kids from going hungry.

On Wednesday, it was serving up orange chicken with with rice and green beans. Children could also get a side of fruit or salad with a carton of milk to go with it.

Waco ISD's food truck runs Monday through Friday. It makes two stops, one at South Terrace Recreation Center from 11:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and another at Kate Ross Housing from 11:35 a.m. to noon.

Chef Julia Pennington is the chef manager for Waco ISD. She said they serve about 40 free meals a day.

"So many don't have that meal outside of school," said Pennington. "So this is us being able to make sure the kids are taken care of."

Pennington said it is mostly elementary school students who take advantage of the program. They installed a TV and play music to try and attract more middle school and high school students.

The food truck runs from now until Aug. 14.
