WACO, TX — Thursday morning, Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Susan Kincannon sent a message to high school families and employees stating that four Waco ISD campuses will be closed Friday, October 9 to Monday, October 19 due to an increased number of COVID-19.

The campuses affected are University High, Waco High, the Greater Waco Advanced Health Care Academy and the Greater Waco Advanced Manufacturing Academy.

“As the number of cases of COVID-19 reported at our high schools has increased, so too has the number of teachers and other employees required to quarantine for 14 days from their last contact with someone who tested positive," said Kincannon.

25 people at these campuses have reported testing positive for COVID-19 since the start of the school year, 14 of those cases were reported in just the last week.

It is strongly encouraged that all high school students and employees to take advantage of the free COVID-19 testing that is available at sites across the community next week, including from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday (October 12-15) at the Waco ISD Stadium.

Before leaving today, all students who have been learning in person will receive a Chromebook or laptop to take home with them. Any students without internet access at home will also be able to check out a mobile hotspot.

If you need technical assistance with either, you can reach our student help desk between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, by calling 254-284-1072.
