WACO, TX — The lead instructor of the culinary arts department at Texas State Technical College will be participating at the IKA/Culinary Olympics next spring.

"I had no idea when I went into this that I would ever compete in the world stage. I had no idea I would be a a part of the World Master Chef or have my certifications, I just thought i would work in restaurants in Manhattan," said Chef Michele Brown.

Brown started baking and cooking at a very young age and says her passion became her life. She has worked in the culinary industry around the country and has taught it for almost a decade.

She became the lead instructor for the culinary arts department at TSTC one year ago, but her networking keeps her busy outside of the classroom.

"I have the opportunity to compete with a regional team out of Manitoba, Canada and I will be there only Texan," said Brown.

This will be the third time that she participates in the Olympics but says it's an experience she is very excited for. Her son, Will Brown, will also be participating in the competition alongside her.
