WACO, TX — A sex offender on the Texas 10 Most Wanted list was arrested in Waco Monday.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 49-year-old Melvin Carl Schrader, had been wanted since April 2018 for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements after leaving his last known address in Bellmead.
Schrader was arrested without incident at an apartment complex on the north side of Waco.
In the 1990's, Schrader was convicted of indecency with a child- sexual contact after an incident involving a 3-year-old girl in McLennan County. DPS says Schrader was discharged from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison in 2005 and was required to register as a sex offender annually for life.
A fugitive on Texas' 10 Most Wanted was also arrested.
Forty five-year-old Cesar Rene Ortiz was arrested on August 13 in Edinburg.
According to DPS, Ortiz has a history of aggravated assault, burglary, weapon and drug charges.
In 2016, Ortiz was convicted in Hidalgo County for aggravated assault. He was released from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison in November 2018.
DPS says Ortiz had been wanted since March 2019 for a parole violation.
