LA VEGA — After being shot and left in a La Vega park over Thanksgiving break, Scooter is in need of a family.

While responding to a call of a dog on the loose, Bellmead Animal Control found Scooter running near Old Dallas Street, only using his front legs.

When they finally caught up to him, they found he had been shot in his back leg.

With local shelters closed, animal control took Scooter to the La Vega Veterinary Clinic, where they quickly found the culprit. The small caliber bullet had entered Scooter's leg and lodged into his spine, paralyzing him from the waist down.

But doctors are amazed at his miraculous will for life.

They say Scooter can do almost everything any other dog can, except for maybe jumping on the bed.

With a special wheelchair they are purchasing, Scooter will be able to run, play and even be a 'workout buddy.'

Scooter is being treated for heartworms, but by late December he will be ready to move into his forever home.

If you would like to adopt Scooter, simply call the La Vega Veterinary Clinic at (254) 799-0808 or visit in person at 555 E Loop 340, Waco, Tx 76705, Waco, TX 76705.
