ORIGINAL STORY:

The Waco Police Department is warning the public to remain vigilant after three shootings have been connected through a social media dating site.

In the last 24 hours, officers worked multiple shootings, including one death.

The first call came in shortly before 12:30 a.m. Monday morning. Officers received a call from a man at the corner store at North New Road and Bosqueville. When officers arrived, they found the man who told officers he had been shot at a different location and was able to drive himself to the store to get help.

The second shooting was deadly. Officers received a call around 1:40 a.m. Monday morning at North 34th Street and Brook Circle. Officers were originally dispatched to a traffic crash after a vehicle had reportedly crashed into a pole. When officers arrived, they located a 23-year-old man who was unresponsive.

While on-scene, officers realized that the driver of the Hyundai sedan had been shot in the upper torso. He was transported to a local hospital by AMR ambulance and was later pronounced dead.

For the third shooting, officers were sent originally to the 100 block of North 34th Street for a call regarding the discharge of a firearm. While searching the area, a second call came in to dispatch regarding a suspicious person who was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound at North 36th and Grim.

The man was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and is receiving treatment.

The two calls related to the third incident came in around 6:15 a.m. Monday morning.

Police say it appears the three shootings are connected and the victims had recently used a social media dating site to arrange a meeting.

This is an active investigation and further information will be released when appropriate. Waco PD is encouraging the public to remain vigilant and arrange meetings for online dating in public places.
