Police: Man dies after hit-and-run in Waco neighborhood

WACO, TX — Waco police officers responded to a call of a man down at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday after a victim was struck by a vehicle and left lying in the street.

Police responded to the call in the 700 block of North 26th Street.

Officials say 61-year-old Dwain Earl Lockhart was found at the scene and taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead by a Justice of the Peace. Waco fire and AMR responded to the scene to assist.

Police say the man was walking in the area when he was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene of the crash and left the man lying in the road.

Mr. Lockhart's family have been notified.
