Verbal altercation leads to shooting on Fourth of July

WACO, TX — A man is dead after a verbal altercation led to a shooting in Waco Saturday afternoon.

The deceased is a 26-year-old man, according to Waco police. He was later identified as Dorreke Dykes of Waco.

Officers were dispatched around 2:40 p.m. to a shooting on 600 S. 11th St. and Clay.

Police say two men were in their vehicles when a verbal altercation ensued. The verbal altercation escalated and one man was shot.

Both people involved had weapons, according to police.

Waco Police are still investigating but say the other person involved, another man, is cooperating.

At this time there have been no arrests and no charges filed.
