WACO, TX — A Waco Police Department officer was bitten during a fight with a suspect at a Dollar General store Tuesday.

The department says officers were called to the Dollar General, located at 4012 Bosque Boulevard, for a forgery in progress.

Thirty-year-old Fernando Sandoval went into the business and was allegedly attempting to pass a counterfeit $100 bill.

Waco PD says officers began to take Sandoval into custody when he began fighting an officer. The officer was bitten on his right forearm. A bone in his right hand was broken and he also received cuts on his head.

Sandoval was eventually subdued and arrested. He is charged with aggravated assault, forgery, resisting arrest and attempt to take a weapon from an officer.

Waco PD says the officer was taken for medical evaluation and is expected to recover. Sandoval was taken for medical clearance.
