WACO, TX — A hiccup in the system caused a local health care facility to go two months without reporting its coronavirus cases.

In efforts to be transparent, this week the City of Waco announced the facility, which has not been identified, failed to report a total of 78 cases during the months of August and September.

"As I understand it, it was an electronic issue where they thought they were being sent, but there was some sort of glitch and they weren't being sent," said Kelly Crane with the Waco-Mclennan County Public Health District.

Because many cases are as old as two months, staff at the health district have not had to do much added contact tracing.

Instead they've been doing an audit to double check to see if any names were already counted. If not, they were added to the total count.

"To be transparent is the most important thing. We can't always be be perfect, and we're not always going to be perfect, but we can be honest," said Crane.

Health district staff say they've been working with the healthcare facility and have solved the issue they had with its reports.
