MCLENNAN CO., TX — Commissioners were finally able to award a contractor the almost $260,000 needed to begin upgrades to Tradinghouse Lake.

The funds will be used for upgrading boat docking areas, adding lighting, grills, benches and picnic areas.

The Commissioners Court asked for funding from the state in 2011.

After a meeting on Tuesday, they were finally able to make some headway toward completing the upcoming renovations.

Just east of Waco in Hallsburg, the lake in precinct 2 is something Commissioner Patricia Miller is excited about.

"One of the priorities is that we want to sustain and enhance those beautiful rural areas," Commissioner Miller said.

There used to be two park areas considered County Park or Lake areas, but that number has since gone down to one.

The Commissioners Court wants to make sure that Tradinghouse Lake gets the care it deserves.

Along with the state's grant, the city is also giving a 75 percent in-kind contribution and will be repaving the roads that lead up to the park.

"It's a hidden gem for residents of McLennan County and the state of Texas as a whole," Commissioner Miller said.

A timeline for the upgrades is still in the works, along with an official start date, but renovations are slated to begin in the Spring of 2020.
