MCLENNAN COUNTY, TX — McLennan Community College was named as the seventh-safest campus in Texas.

The study is based on analyses of U.S. Department of Education's Campus Safety and Security report and the FBI Uniform Crime Report.

Tarleton State University earned top honors of safest campus in Texas.

"The safety of the College is a team effort,” MCC Police Chief Clayton Williams said. “The administration, faculty and staff of MCC has been instrumental in the safety of our College. The collaboration with everyone has been great. One of the main keys, I believe, is the communication. (The combination of) reporting suspicious activity, officers interacting with students and being seen has also had an impact on the safety of our campus."

The police department has also changed 400 door locks allowing limited access, and active shooter training is being taught to new employees.
