Major crash that had southbound lanes of I-35 shut down in Bellmead sends two to hospital

BELLMEAD, TX — UPDATE: Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to the crash and reported that a Chevrolet HHR traveling in the right lane crashed into a Chevrolet Silverado, that was coming onto the highway.

After the crash, the HHR lost control while attempting to enter the left lane and was struck by a truck tractor semi-trailer.

The driver of the HHR was transported to Baylor Scott and White Waco in critical condition. The driver of the Silverado was also transported to Baylor Scott and White Waco to be treated for a possible injury.

No other injuries were reported. The investigation is still active and ongoing.

The roadway is now clear. Bellmead PD and McLennan County SO assisted DPS during this investigation.

A major crash has been reported on I-35 at North Loop 340 in Bellmead and has the right lane closed.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation website, a vehicle collision caused all southbound lanes of I-35 to close around 7:12 am Friday morning.

As of 7:20 am, only the right lane had been closed at mile marker 339 in McLennan County.

It is unclear how long it will take to clear the accident and how many vehicles were affected.
