WACO, TX — The Veteran One Stop is the proud location of a new bus stop thanks to a local veteran.

In October 2018, John Hirsch said he wrote the letter suggesting a shelter be added to the bus stop after he saw two veterans get soaked while waiting for their bus.

"What I noticed was that we had one of our famous Waco rainstorms. I was leaving here and before I left the driveway the two veterans were running for cover and missed their bus."

After nearly a year, the new bus stop was finalized by Waco Transit, and placed in front of the Veteran One Stop on September 3rd.

Hirsch said he can't help but smile after realizing that a simple suggestion became a reality.

"There are so many visuals each of us go through daily where people need help or something needs to be done, it's recognizing that," said Hirsch.

Soon a plaque will be added to the bus stop honoring Hirsch and his best friend, his service dog Max, for his small act of kindness that will now help so many be protected from the sun and rain before getting on the bus.
