Gregor Summers slated to become Waco's next Fire Chief

WACO, TX — City Manager Wiley Stem has announced his selection of Gregory Summers as the new Fire Chief for the City of Waco, and will ask the City Council to confirm the appointment.

The City selected Strategic Government Resources (SGR) to conduct a nationwide search to fill the position and Summers was one of two finalists in a pool of 46 highly qualified applicants from across the country. SGR is an executive search, interim management, and training firm based out of Keller, Texas, specializing in helping local governments be more successful by recruiting, assessing and developing, innovative, collaborative, authentic leaders.

Summers has over 34 years of fire service experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Management from Arkansas Tech University and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Fire Science from Black River Technical College. Summers is the former fire chief in Little Rock, Arkansas where he was chief for nine years. With Summers at the helm, the department earned a Class 1 Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating and received international accreditation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence.

Stem said, “I am excited to recommend Greg to the City Council for consideration as our next Fire Chief and am looking forward to the leadership he will bring to this important position.”
