WACO, TX — Earlier Friday morning, Dr. Isaac Carrier, principal of G.W. Carver Middle School, sent a message to Carver families and employees stating that all students would be learning remotely next week.
The announcement comes after an individual who was on campus at Carver Middle School tested positive for COVID-19.
“Our campus will be closing at 1 p.m. today, and all students will be learning remotely next week. At this time, we are planning for the campus to reopen on Tuesday, October 13 for families that have selected in-person instruction. We will update our families as soon as possible if this plan changes," wrote principal Carrier.
This is the second person at the campus to test positive since the start of the school year however, a significant number of students and employees were in close contact with that person and will have to stay home for 14 days from their last contact with that individual.
“As I noted above, we will begin dismissing students at 1 p.m. today. We will follow our normal dismissal procedures, and buses will run their regular routes starting at 1 p.m. If you pick up your student, please do so as close to 1 p.m. as possible," he wrote.
All students who have been learning in person will receive a Chromebook to take home with them. Any students without internet access at home will also be able to check out a mobile hotspot. If you need technical assistance with your student’s Chromebook or a mobile hotspot, you can reach our student help desk between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday by calling 254-284-1072.
If there is something that your student needs to be successful, please reach out. You can call the campus at 254-757-0787 or email Dr. Carrier at isaac.carrier@wacoisd.org.
