CHINA SPRING, TX — Families across Central Texas made a stop in China Spring to enjoy some Christmas magic safely.
Fossil Creek Retreat is known for its beautiful events, but this year, the event business took a hard hit amid the pandemic.
"We were expected and planning for the record year of events," said owner Jennifer Vera.
Vera and her husband were ready for 2020 to be one of the most significant years for their event business at Fossil Creek Retreat.
"I mean, when I tell you we were averaging 40 to 60 events," said Vera. "We were doing great, and that was per week!"
But then, the least expected hit.
" March 13th, I will never forget the date it just hit," said Vera.
A worldwide epidemic took over, and the event business fell short.
"That weekend, we received call after call after call of cancellations, and it felt like the end of the world," she said.
She says thankfully, they were always prepared for a "what if" moment.
"Not that we ever expected that the "what if" would hit us in this way," said Vera, "We decided we could whine about our situation or do something to fix it."
They put their years of experience and passion for planning to good use by creating a magical place for families from Central Texas to enjoy.
"It's nice to be outdoors and to be able to enjoy the holiday spirit still," said one family.
"To see their eyes light up as we make Christmas magic, you only get so many Christmases with your little girls," said a mother of two girls.
This Christmas Wonderland is also putting Vera's business in a better place for 2021.
"It's just been great, and it's been a way to keep ourselves busy, our employees working, and bring some sense of normalcy to Central Texas families this holiday season," said Vera.
They are closed on Christmas Day. However, their last weekend will be December 26-27. Find admission details here.
