WACO, TX — In February of last year, Topgolf announced Waco would be chosen as one of the first locations in the U.S. to open the company’s new open concept venue.
“I think they are calling it a backyard type atmosphere. We’re excited to see what it is, and I think its going to fit our citizenry and the tourists that come through here... Its going to fit our area really well,”said Larry Holze, City of Waco's spokesperson.
The lay-out is known as a backyard style venue and features the same games using Toptracer Range ball-tracing technology, climate-controlled hitting bays, and a full service restaurant and bar, but with just one main floor and an open sit down covered area.
“Out there where the top golf will be going in, the Cinemark 14 screen theatre will be out there. And other entertainment for families first of all to enjoy, but also for visitors who can very conveniently enjoy themselves and go to marketplace and shop and we can collect that sales tax,”said Holze.
Augusta was the first location with this new layout and opened in the spring of 2020 followed by Chattanooga in August of last year.
Waco wont be too far behind, and construction is already in full swing along I-35.
“Anytime you hear the word ‘Topgolf’ it normally means something really special in a community, because they are not widely spread. They normally go to fairly large markets, and we were very excited whenever we were able to work on a city package for them to be a part of that entertainment complex out there on I-35 right behind the Central Texas Marketplace in a very hot area,” said Holze.
The new location is set to open in the spring, but in the meantime, Topgolf’s Live Stadium Series is coming to Baylor’s McLane Stadium from February 25th through the 28th.
