KILLEEN, TX — A new hike and bike trail is getting closer and closer to being completed in Killeen.

The City of Killeen is constructing Heritage Oaks Hike and Bike Trail in southeast Killeen. It's set to be completed in 2020.

However, city officials warn although parts of the trail look to be finished, people should not use the trails until they are 100 percent complete.

"It's very inviting to come out and take a walk, however we do advise against that at this point it is still an active construction zone and for safety reasons it's best if we let that be a construction zone," shared David Olson, executive director of the City of Killeen Public Works Department.

He added the active construction area has unfinished pavement, no lighting or safety features installed and heavy equipment in use.

City officials shared the trail will run around 3.5 miles along the south end of Rosewood Drive and follow Pyrite Drive and Trimmier Creek.
