BELTON, TX — The community is coming together to remember a 15-year-old that was killed in a shooting in Belton.

Joshua Reyner was killed on Jan. 2, almost a month from his 16th birthday.

His obituary says,"he loved fiercely and lacked boundaries. He was quick to offer an infectious smile, and he cherished the opportunity to make others laugh. Josh was silly. His life’s journey was not an easy one. He was presented with a difficult path and faced a number of obstacles from an early age. Through it all, he remained true to himself."

A memorial is being built for Reyner. Friends and family will be lighting candles Tuesday at 6 p.m. in his memory.

"We love you Josh and we will continue to light these candles so your way home is not dark," a close family friend said of the candlelight vigil.

The location of the vigil is 1610 S. Wall St. Belton TX, 76513.

There is also a GoFundMe created in his memory to raise money for Belton Independent School District's special needs program.

The GoFundMe said that the team in the BISD AIMS program were invaluable in helping Josh. From Tarver, to LBMS, to BHS, their patience, persistence, and willingness to do whatever was needed truly made a positive difference in his life.

"Our family has always been grateful for their efforts, and we want to show our appreciation through this campaign," the family said.

Joshua's funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 11 at 12 p.m. at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Belton.

“The Belton Independent School District was saddened to learn about the tragic deaths of two students from Belton High School that occurred in separate off campus events over winter break. We extend our deepest sympathies to each student’s family and friends, as well as the school community. Additional counseling support will be available this week to assist our students and staff.”

No one has been arrested in connection with his murder at this time.
