WACO, TX — For the July 3 edition of Central Texas Living Ann Harder spoke with Duane McGregor, marketing manager at the Cameron Park Zoo.

Disney, Association of Zoos & Aquariums Saving Animals From Extinction which includes Cameron Park Zoo, and the Wildlife Conservation Network's Lion Recovery Fund will be leasing a theatre at the Regal Jewel in Waco the evening of Thursday, July 18 for a private premiere showing of The Lion King. All of the proceeds from ticket sales will go the the Wildlife Conservation Network's Lion Recovery Fund.

Since the release of the first Lion King film 25 years ago, we have lost half of Africa’s lions. Only 20,000 remain from a population of 200,000 just a century ago. This summer, Disney’s The Lion King Protect the Pride campaign has launched a significant conservation effort for lions and African wildlife to raise awareness of the lion crisis. Disney and AZA SAFE African Lions are supporting the Wildlife Conservation Network’s Lion Recovery Fund and its partners to help African wildlife and communities.

During the month of July, Cameron Park Zoo plans to participate in the Protect the Pride campaign by doing keeper talks on the weekends to educate guests about lions, why they are now on the endangered list and the conservation efforts to save them. There will also be lion training sessions during the keeper talks.
