UPDATE STORY:
A high-speed chase that began around 2:50 a.m. Thursday on West Adams Avenue in Temple ended in Belton with a crash and an officer-involved shooting, according to the Bell County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to stop a speeding vehicle, which fled south on I-35 before exiting in Belton and colliding with another car. When deputies and a Belton police officer approached the suspect vehicle, one occupant reportedly displayed a firearm. The officer fired at the vehicle, and one person fled on foot.

Another occupant of the suspect vehicle was treated at the scene and transported to Baylor Scott & White in Temple. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was also hospitalized.

Deputies have one person in custody, though it’s not confirmed whether that individual is the one who fled. The Texas Rangers are investigating, and the deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave. Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
